How To Check Allison Transmission Fluid Level

There are cases where the fluid level in an Allison transmission may be low and you don’t get a warning that is why it is advised that you check your transmission fluid level occasionally.

In this guide, we will give you a detailed process on how to check Allison transmission fluid level. After checking the fluid level, you can proceed to changing the fluid and filling up your transmission.

How to check Allison transmission fluid level

There are two methods of checking transmission fluid. The first is by using a dipstick while the other is by checking the fluid level by using a shifting selector. When using a dipstick, you will need to drive your car around for about 20 minutes. After driving, pull out your dipstick, if the fluid stains most of the dipstick, then you have sufficient fluid but if it stains just the bottom of the dipstick then you have insufficient fluid.

You can also check your fluid from inside your car using the shifting selector keypad. This keypad makes this task easier and it is more accurate than the dipstick method. To enable the transmission oil level display mode, push the up and down button on the mode selector simultaneously. For effective results, the following conditions should be met –

  1. Your engine should be idle
  2. The transmission sump oil should be at the operating temperature
  3. The transmission output shaft has ceased its movement
  4. The transmission is neutral
  5. The oil level sensor should be functioning properly

When these conditions are met, a two-minute countdown begins, failure to meet these conditions will result in half in the countdown. When the countdown is paused, the shifting selector shows you a message that reads “oil level codes” and then it shows you the reason why the countdown is being paused. After meeting the above conditions, the countdown resumes from where it stopped.

Allison shifting selector with single digits will display the codes one after the other, while a shifting selector with two digits will display the codes two digits at a time. Below are some codes that you may see if you don’t meet the conditions required.

CodesDescription
oL 0XThe setting time is too short
oL 50The RPM of the engine is too low
oL 59The RPM of the engine is too high
oL 65Neutral not selected
oL 70The sump fluid temperature is too low
oL 79The sump fluid temperature is too high
oL 89Output shaft rotation detected
oL 95Oil level sensor malfunctioning.

After the two-minute countdown is complete, you will see one of the following on the shifting selector.

Oil level readingDescription
OL OKFluid level is okay
OL LO 1The fluid level is insufficient by 1 quart

To exit the fluid display mode, push the neutral button or simultaneously push the up and down button twice.

Conclusion

The procedure above is detailed enough to show you how to check Allison transmission fluid level. It is easier to use a shifting selector than to use a dipstick. If you are in the market for superclone Replica Rolex , Super Clone Rolex is the place to go!
